Another Tired Blog

Hi all! I am always excited to see who is reading the blog. I have added a tracker on here and now can see how many of you come on each day and where from. You can also get a hold of me by leaving comments or emailing me. (softballrita@gmailcom)

Was a good weekend. Was able to go to the top of the moutains bowl which was basically a national championships for juior college football. The team my friend's were cheering for actually lost so that was a bummer, but it was a nice experience to sit in a box and watch the game, seeing it was snowing and cold. We had some adventures as we traveled around Salt Lake in the snowy, and cold weather. I love Trax and we took that train around the University of Utah in order to do some shopping. Good times.

I think December brought winter with it. I am okay with Winter now, seeing it is almost Christmas. November is a hard month for me but it was made easier by it not being winter weather. I think I can deal with the cold with all the things I get to look forward to in the next few weeks.

I don't have much to say tonight. I am really tired. I think all the lack of sleep from last week is catching up with me. I think I will just post this now and catch some Zs. I hope you all are enjoying December so far and that you are less tired than me. It is the month of Just doing it. So, do something.

I'm Dreaming of....

It is almost 11:30pm. This is the fourth night this week that I have been up this late. It really doesn't work for me, but it keeps happening. Tonight was Parent-Teacher Conferences and I didn't get home until 9:30. (I was talking with other teachers after conferences finished at 8). Of course, I didn't get any time for myself today, so I came home and played some banjo and then had to watch some TV.

The highlight of the day was teaching while standing on a chair and having T-Roy say: "Alice, what are you doing on that chair?" I responded: "I am teaching!" T-Roy then said: "You don't have to stand on a chair to teach." Of course, his tone was like: "Hello, you are a teacher on or off the chair and you are plain crazy to be up there!"

This week is flying. Less than three weeks until I get on that plane to go home for the Holiday. I was very excited to hear Adam Sandler's Hanukkah song this morning before work. Time is flying and it is still weird to think that after tomorrow it is December. Weird.

Nothing too exciting to write about today. It was an uneventful but fun day. The sunset was amazing. I am a sucker for sunsets. I had to take a break from conferences to go outside in order to enjoy the sunset. I even made one of my teacher friends come out with me to enjoy the natural show. She thought it would be a good idea to take a picture of me with the sunset. It is a good picture.

I wish I could have stopped on the way to work today and take a picture of what the mountains looked like this morning as a part of the sunrise. It was spectacular. The mountains were totally purple. Purple Mountains Majesty. Good sun day!

My Life

The picture comes from a wedding reception I went to this past weekend. Funny thing is that I actually brought the camera to take pictures of the new bride and groom and only ended up getting this one picture of my friend and I as we were leaving the reception. I like this picture though because we are two of the three remaining singles from the group of roommates that the bride was from. It is kinda our picture of the remaining singles. I almost said dregs but that is so not true. I think the best are being saved for last. And that was probably mean too. Excuse it, if you were offended.

I talked to one of my favorite four year olds today on the phone. (I met him at church because his mom comes to my ward's relief society and activities.) It is always an adventure talking to a four year old on the phone. Especially when you are confused about what they are talking about because they are giving you the history of their stuffed animals and you think they are actually talking about real people. Rookie mistake, I guess. He was also very cute because he asked me about what I did today. This is how I summed it up:
1. I woke up
2. I went to work
3. I went to a basketball game
4. I came home and was reading and then was talking to said four year old.

Looking at that list makes the day seem a little boring but it was an overall good day. Except for the fact that when I did wake up and went to look in the mirror I thought I was seeing a haggard forty year old, that was kinda hard. Going to work actually wasn't too bad today. My students were pretty manageable and fun. The boys basketball team for our school had its first game tonight and they played very well together and got a win. I am excited to have games to go to again. Then I came home and talked to a four year old and his mom. Two of my favorite people really. And then I was able to watch House with a friend while eating spaghetti. Very good times. I don't know why sometimes we think that life is boring when really each day holds so many good memories. We are all very lucky to be on this journey. I wonder what tomorrow will bring. I better get to sleep so I am not that haggard looking woman again tomorrow. Cheers!

Deer at School.

I think these deer look much more eager to learn than some of my students. Funny thing is that they were actually outside our school today. They actually live in this little tiny woods that is next to the school. Crazy! I wonder what it would be like to try to teach a group of deer. I think it would be just about as entertaining as watching cats. I often wonder why a cat all of the sudden thinks it needs to be in a different room. It is quietly sitting on the top of the couch and BAM, the thought comes into its mind that is must be in the kitchen. Suddenly, the cat finds itself in the kitchen and really just is wondering: Why am I in the kitchen? Deer would be those kind of learners that sit there and say to themselves: "Why am I in this classroom and how did I get here?"

Question?

Question: Why do people who have no people skills end up in a position as the head of human resources?

Answer: No clue

Every time I go into deal with issues that only can be solved by human resources at the office of my employ, I try to avoid the woman who I like to refer to as, Grumpy. I hope as I walk through the door that she will have gone home already or that my favorite person in the office will be there to cheerfully call out my name and ask: "How are you?" The nicest person knows that being in human resources means that you must be able to relate to humans and that you are, in fact, supposed to be a resource to all of the humans you come in contact with. I like her. Grumpy, on the other hand could, be the last person on earth and I would still vote her off the island.

Today I walked in to find Grumpy at the front desk. I thought to myself, be nice and maybe she will be nice back. I said hi and how are you doing. No response. I started for the actual human resource office and she stopped me: "NOBODY'S in there!" I then explained my dilemma and she flatly said I would have to wait for the nicest person in the office to be back to get done what I needed to be done. I was peeved because this basically would take at tops three minutes and Grumpy is perfectly able to get the job done. Because Grumpy was so short and mean and scary, I just gave her the thing I needed to be signed and walked away as she was saying: "I am perfectly able to help you but I am too good for this peon type of work and I really don't care about what you need because this life is all about me, so you will have to call my nicest colleague tomorrow to see when it will be done." She really didn't say that, but that is what I heard.
